Fed: defer non-essential travel to Thailand's south - DFAT
The government says Australians should defer non-essential travel to southern Thailand
following a spate of bombings.
At least two people have been killed and several dozen wounded in bomb blasts in Songkhla,
a province just north of where an Islamic insurgency has been active for more than a year.
Officials say several foreigners are among the wounded, but a spokeswoman for the Department
of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra says there's no word of any Australian casualties.
She says consular officials in Bangkok are checking with local authorities.
She says Australians in Thailand are advised to exercise extreme caution and to defer
non-essential travel to a number of southern provinces, including Songkhla.
